Implementing income stability programs with Whirlpool India

In Shirur block, Pune district, LHWRF and Whirlpool of India Limited have transformed water management across seven villages through integrated solutions. Drip and sprinkler irrigation systems now cover 113 acres, achieving a remarkable 75% reduction in water consumption while enabling farmers to diversify into high-value horticulture.

Decades-old percolation tanks have been revived through systematic de-siltation and structural repairs, extending water retention capacity by 2-3 months and supporting crucial Rabi season cultivation. Twelve public facilities now house rooftop rainwater harvesting systems, while cement nala bunds enhance watershed-level conservation and groundwater recharge.

This approach addresses water scarcity driven by erratic rainfall and depleting groundwater reserves. Smallholder farmers, previously dependent on inefficient flood irrigation, now witness enhanced productivity through resource-efficient systems that prove conservation and financial returns can coexist, ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
